The village was founded in 1980 by a Swiss potter Evelyn Burrett who visited Egypt, especially Fayoum, with some of her Egyptian friends. Soon, she decided to come to Tunis’s village and build her dream country house on this land. The house is designed as a primitive roof, using environmentally friendly building materials. She was the inspiration for the designs of Hassan Fathy, the dean of contemporary architects.
Then he established a ceramics studio in the new country house. At first, the village children visited a discovery out of curiosity, to see and know what was happening in the place they heard about. Some of the children and their families seemed very interested in the foreign woman’s new job, which encouraged her to help them search within her for the talents they possessed. Gradually, she also built her school of pottery on the land of the same charming village.
