Sinai Peninsula Location
The Sinai Peninsula is in the shape of an inverted triangle, located in the Asian region of the Near East. Politically it belongs to Egypt, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Isthmus of Suez to the west, the border with Israel to the east, the Gaza Strip to the northeast, and the Red Sea to the south.
Its southern vertex enters the sea above, defining two gulfs in it, to the west, the Gulf of Suez, and to the east, the Gulf of Eilat.
Explore the Interior of Sinai
Most people who visit the Sinai Peninsula want to see the eastern part of the peninsula and the beautiful seas surrounding it. They shouldn’t miss the chance also to see the interior of the arm and all of the historical sites that can be found there. Before Sharm el Sheikh and other cities on the Sinai Peninsula, like Dahab and Taba, became known for their beaches, the Sinai Peninsula was mainly known for its religious history.
In the Old Testament, the Jewish people went on the run and ended up in Egypt, where they set up a temporary home. This happened long ago before Sharm el Sheikh became a famous tourist spot. The most popular places for tourists to visit in the Sinai Peninsula are Mount Sinai and the town of St. Catherine, which was built at the base of the mountain and is next to a monastery with the same name.
The nearby mountain gave its name to the church of St. Catherine, next to the monastery. The monks who lived there in the sixth century A.D. built the first wall of the tower we see today and were the ones in charge of building the tower. They did these things at the place in the Bible where the Bible says there was a burning bush. Mount Sinai can be reached from the Sinai Peninsula by a trip that takes about a half day and can be set up at any hotel or beach resort.
Most of these trips start with climbing up a mountain to see the desert highlands as the sun rises. After that, they go to a monastery that is not open to the public because the monks still use it for religious purposes. Even so, it would be a good idea for a day trip to go to one of the oldest religious buildings that are still in use.
Many people think that the religious manuscripts found in the library of St. Catherine are the most important in the world and that those found at the Vatican are the only ones that are more important. The area around the monastery is not only beautiful in its own right, but especially the mountains that surround it.
People who live in the area are Bedouins, and they organize walks and treks that go all over the St. Catherine protectorate. The time spent on these trips could be from a few hours to several days. The beautiful desert gardens seen on these trips are a big reason why they have become so popular in the last few years.
A trip to the Blue Valley, which got its name when a famous artist painted a rock formation in the area in this color to represent peace in 1981, is still one of the most popular day trips. The Blue Valley got its name from where it is. Hiking in the colored canyon is another great outdoor activity.
It is well known for how good its hiking trails are, and it is close to Nuweiba. Some of the most beautiful canyons and rock formations you’ve ever seen are along these trails. You can also go on a desert safari in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, much like safaris in the Western Desert.
You can take a bus from Cairo to the Sinai region, where popular vacation spots like Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab, and St. Catherine are. All of these towns and cities are on the Sinai Peninsula.
